November Birthstone

For people who were born on the month of November, the Yellow Topaz is their assigned birthstone. The word came from a Sanskrit which means “fire”. During the ancient times, the topaz is commonly used to control heat. People in the early civilizations stated that the Topaz has the power to cool down boiling water. It is also used to calm people with excessive anger and to treat people with fever.

However, in the Middle Ages, not all people can wear the most prized topaz. It was only worn by the clergy and people who belong to the royal family. In the 13Th century; kings, princes and magnates held a topaz with an engraved falcon to help or aid them with goodwill. The topaz was believed to prevent mental disorders, increase wisdom and strengthen the mind of the wearer. It was believed to guards the wearer against sudden death. It can also prevent asthma or insomnia once it is turned into a powdered topaz and if it is added to the wine. If you immerse the topaz in the wine for three whole days , then rub the liquid on the eyes, it is a cure for a weak vision.

The topaz can be seen in many different magnificent colors. You can see them in black, brown, red, pink, yellow, pale green and blue. There are some pure topaz that can be seen in colorless. You can transform the colorless topaz to a blue gemstone by using a high energy irradiation or moderate heat treatment. Keep in mind that there are some colors that are unstable which means they can fade away. A good example of this kind of topaz is the one mined in Siberia which is called the brown topaz, the brown color fades away once it is bleached under sunlight. Some stones just change their color once they are exposed to heat.

The topaz is an aluminum silicate fluoride hydroxide. It is considered as the hardest mineral among silicates because of its strong chemical bonds. The topaz is the best rock to use when it comes to bracelets, brooches, necklaces, clips and other kinds of jewelry because of its clarity, lively fire, beautiful colors and hardness. If a pure topaz is brilliantly cut, it can sometimes be mistaken for a diamond. The topaz is a really expensive stone because of its rarity. The red topaz is the most valuable and the rarest color. The most popular topaz and has a very high price is the Imperial topaz. It is a sherry colored with a variety of orangish yellow, brownish yellow and reddish brown. The topaz that has a lesser value are the light blue and pale yellow but has a stunning beauty.

Topaz was derived from the Greek word Topazios which is an ancient name of St. John's Island found in the Red Sea. The topaz can be found Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Norway, Pakistan, Sweden, Brazil, Japan, Mexico, Germany, Czech Republic, the United States and Flinders Island.
