What Birthstone Do You Give (January to June)?

Birthstones are a neat little trinket you can buy for anyone - friends, family, co-workers and bosses. They also serve as wedding anniversary presents due to their association with various anniversaries.

Usually, birthstones cost very little and can be found at most gift shops, usually near the counter. Of course, to know what birthstone to buy, you have to know the birthstone of the person you are buying for. This article looks at the first six months in a year.

The birthstone for January is garnet in the dark-red color. These gemstones are found in Russia, the United States and Turkey. They will vary greatly in color, even changing color in the daylight. For March, the gemstone of choice is Aquamarine in the pale blue color. This stone is closely related to the emerald gemstone and comes in blue color. It is the gemstone for the state of Colorado and the gemstone for the 19th wedding anniversary.

Diamonds are the gemstone of choice for April. Diamond, the hardest substance in the world, is one of the most valuable gems in the world today. It is the gemstone for the 60th wedding anniversary. Diamonds are everywhere in our society, from being part of industrial machinery for their hardness, to showing love as the centerpiece of wedding and engagement rings.

May is the month for spring flowers and the emerald gemstone in the green color is the perfect fit. It is the stone for the 55th wedding anniversary. Emeralds can be found all over the world, including in Russia, the United States and Canada.

The Alexandrite gemstone in a red color is the gemstone for June. This gemstone was apparently discovered on the 16th birthday of Tsar Alexander by a Finnish miner on April 17, 1834. This is one of the most expensive gemstones currently available for purchase commercially.

When buying a gemstone, make sure you do not purchase a fake. There are many stones out there that look like emeralds and the one you buy could be a forgery. It may not matter, depending on your budget, but make sure you get your money's worth.
